Community

The Bridge lives through people. It is carried by visitors, customers, sponsors, and friends — a growing community that believes in the power of structured knowledge.

籍 Three Characters of Community

Chinese writing knows several characters for what we in the West call "community." Three are particularly meaningful for this project:

shè — Society, CommunityOriginally an earthen altar for communal sacrificial ceremonies. Combines "altar" (示) and "earth" (土). The oldest form of organized community.
zhòng — The Many, The CrowdThree "people" (人) under one roof — the multitude, the assembly. The plural voices of the community.
hé — Together, Harmony, UnionA "mouth" (口) under a lid — fitting together, harmonizing. The act of coming together, the quality of connection.

Community in the Bridge's sense means: organized assembly (社) of diverse people (众), in harmonious connection (合), jointly cultivating, deepening, and passing on knowledge.
